Which is Better: Top Bunk or Bottom Bunk?

Bunk beds are a popular choice for bedrooms with limited space. They offer a variety of sleeping options, and can be used by both children and adults. Some people prefer to sleep on the bottom bunk, while others prefer the top bunk. There are pros and cons to both options and we’ll go in to detail which is better. Which is better for you?

Which is Better: Top Bunk or Bottom Bunk? The Pros and Cons.

Bottom bunk pros:

Most people believe that the top bunk is the best place to sleep because it is the highest up and offers a better view. However, there are several advantages to sleeping in the bottom bunk. First of all, it is typically cooler on the bottom bunk because the air circulates better. Second, it is easier to get in and out of bed if you are on the bottom bunk. Third, you don’t have to worry about things falling on your head from the top bunk. Finally, if there is a power outage, you will be less likely to be woken up than if you were on the top bunk.

Bottom bunk cons:

The bottom bunk is often the most uncomfortable because it doesn’t have much height space hence makes it difficult to get up specially if you’re tall, and the bed from top bunk above can be a nuisance sometimes.

If you bunk bed is placed under your main sources of lighting, then the bottom bunk bed can be darker and difficult to see than top one. However, this could be solved by move your bed to different places, or place more lights for your room, so bottom bunk can receive enough lighting.

The noise from the top can be one of the things to consider. Imagine in middle of the night where you’re having your best dream, someone climbs ladder (which is closer to you) to go to top bunk, or someone sleeping on top bunk moving their body, that cause the bed to make noise.

Top bunk pros:

Opposite of bottom bunk, top bunk usually have more height space to “use” so you don’t have to worry of accidentally smashing your head into something.

Because there is no cover on top so it doesn’t block the light, no matter wherever it places, it will receive from enough to lots of light.

Because you need to climb a ladder to get to top bunk, that requires some body activities and small body muscles, if you’re type of person who likes to exercise then top bunk is the perfect choice. Or it would be good choice for your active kids, because they love exercise and climbing things.

Top bunk cons:

Climbing up and down just to get up or off the bed can be troublesome. If you just want to get up the bed to have your precious sleeping time from tired working day, and you still have to climb up ladder just to get into bed.

Also, getting down from top bed maybe just to grab some quick water, to turn off lights, to answer phone calls, or you need to go to toilet,.. can be very frustrating. Waking up in middle of the night then climbing down in ladder without a light source can be dangerous sometimes.

Final thought

In conclusion, both bottom and top bunk beds have their own pros and cons. Ultimately, the decision of which bed to choose comes down to personal preference. Some people feel more comfortable on the bottom bunk, while others prefer the top bunk for better visibility and air circulation.
